Mark Wareham, ACS is an award-winning Australian Director of Photography known for his relentless
creative energy, infectious enthusiasm, quick-thinking mind, and deep love for the craft. Mark’s
cinematography has screened at major festivals including Sundance, Toronto, and SXSW and his work
can be seen in theaters, television and on streaming platforms worldwide.
Mark’s feature film credits include Cherie Nowland’s ground-breaking dramedy Clubland, which earned
Mark a Best Cinematography nomination from the Australian Film Institute. Other features include Mairi
Cameron’s thriller The Second, Rachel Perkins’ period drama Jasper Jones starring Toni Collette, and
the crime drama Felony, written by and starring Joel Edgerton. Mark also lensed Leah Purcell’s period
western The Legend of Molly Johnson, leading to Best Cinematography nominations from the
Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) and the Australian Film Critics Association,
with Mark winning the Best Cinematography prize from the Film Critics Circle of Australia. His most
recent feature film is the genre actioner Beast of War which premiered at MIFF and earned another
AACTA nomination for Best Cinematography in Film. Mark’s next feature release is the comedic family
adventure Fing! starring Taika Waititi, which is set to premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Mark’s episodic work includes the Netflix projects Secret City and Clickbait in addition to the
supernatural thriller Preacher and crime drama Black Snow, both for AMC. Mark garnered back-to-back
AACTA nominations for Best Cinematography in Television for his work in the 2025 mini-series Boy
Swallows Universe and this year’s powerful drama The Survivors, directed by Cherie Nowlan. He shot all
three seasons of NBC’s large scale science fiction series La Brea as well as the crime drama Mystery
Road, which was selected for competition at Camerimage, the world’s leading cinematography festival.
Most recently, Mark lensed director Emma Freeman’s series Dustfall, starring Anna Torv.
Mark’s international credits include second and action unit work on Anacondas, The Condemned,
Triangle, The Wolverine (Japan unit), and China’s The Whistleblower.
